Viticulture is the science of grape growing. Texas has approximately 4,400 grape-bearing acres. Enology is the science and study of wine and winemaking. In Texas, there is an active wine industry with over 50 wine grape cultivars. The Viticulture and Enology Level 2 Certificate emphasizes the skills needed for students seeking employment in the grape industry to include cultivation of grapes, wine production, and winery operation.
