    The Associate of Science degree with a concentration in Mathematics prepares students for careers in fields such as education, actuarial science and statistics as well as careers in numerous other fields of science and engineering.  Based on the student’s placement level and high school background, the student may place out of MATH 1314, College Algebra, and MATH 2412, Precalculus.  Students not prepared to begin MATH 2413 must enroll in MATH 2412, Precalculus.

    Palo Alto College has signed 2+2 articulation agreements with area colleges and universities.  Students following these degree plans should consult with a faculty advisor for guidance.

     

    Mathematics, A.S. Degree Plan (MTHG)

    Communication (9 Hours)

     
     
    Select 1 course from the Additional Communication (11) Core   

    Mathematics (4 Hours)

    Natural Sciences (8 Hours)

    Select two sequential lab courses from:

    Humanities and Visual/Performing Arts (9 Hours)

    Select 1 course from the Humanities (40) Core 
    Select 1 course from the Additional Humanities (41) Core 
    Select 1 course from the Visual and Performing Arts (50) Core 

    Social and Behavioral Sciences (15 Hours)

    Select 2 courses from the History (60) Core 
    Select 2 courses from the Government (70) Core 
    Select 1 course from the Social and Behavioral Sciences (80) Core 

    Kinesiology/Dance (2 Hours)

    Two hours required from the Kinesiology (90) Core   

    Additional Requirements (14 Hours)

    Transfer Degree Note:

    Courses from the Additional Requirements area may not be used to satisfy Core Curriculum requirements.
